Deep in the woods of Barkhamsted, Connecticut archaeologist Ken Feder found a series of irregular cellar holes that led to an archaeological and genealogical investigation into what had come to be known as the legend of the Barkhamsted Lighthouse. In the mid-1700s, Molly and James Chaugham, the latter of whom was a Narragansett Indian from Block Island, started a family and created a community that became a magnet for other outcasts including Native Americans, as well as people of African and European descent. Join Dr. Ken Feder, professor emeritus in Anthropology at Central Connecticut State University for a presentation and discussion of his newly published book The Barkhamsted Lighthouse: The Archaeology of the Lighthouse Family (Rowman and Littlefield, 2023).
