For thousands of years, many Native peoples have decorated clothing and items with materials found in nature, such as shell, stones, seeds and porcupine quills. In more recent centuries, multi-colored glass beads have become a favorite medium, as well. Join artist and educator Eva Newell (Pokanoket Tribe, Pokanoket Nation) for a beading workshop in which participants will craft a woodland creature keychain using the brick stitch technique. Spend an afternoon making a unique project while learning about the tradition of beadwork in Native American communities.
Please note: Due to the patience and dexterity required for this project, and the fact that participants will be using needles, this workshop is recommended for participants ages 8 and up. Depending on your experience level, this workshop may take several hours, so we encourage you to bring a snack.
Space is limited, so pre-registration is requested. Please register online using the tickets below. Questions? Please email events@iaismuseum.org or call (860) 868 0518. Price of participation includes materials.
