Looking to expand your reading list and discuss a variety of issues and topics important to Native people? Please join our virtual book club, As They Speak: Native Voices in Today’s Literature. Based on a variety of topics and featuring a range of genres, all of the books we will be reading have been written by contemporary authors. This month, we’re reading We Survived The Night by Julian Brave Noisecat (enrolled member of Canim Lake Band Tsq'escen). This stunning narrative from the director of the Oscar-nominated documentary Sugarcane interweaves oral history with hard-hitting journalism and a deeply personal father-son journey into a searing portrait of Indigenous survival, love, and resurgence. Drawing from five years of on-the-ground reporting, this month’s selection paints a profound and unforgettable portrait of contemporary Indigenous life, alongside an intimate and deeply powerful reckoning between a father and a son. Join the conversation hosted by IAIS Staff on Zoom.

Please note: Due to the nature of this month’s selection and the related topics of discussion, this month’s book club meeting might trigger strong emotions for some participants.

In order to have a more intimate conversation, space is limited. Please register online to receive the Zoom link. Questions? Please call (860) 868-0518 or email events@iaismuseum.org. This is a free event, but donations are appreciated. This event will NOT be recorded.
